I have a corrupt Boot.ini file and am running XP home
edition. Can any one tell be how to get a clean file,

If you have your OS on the first partition of the first hard drive you can
just copy and paste the below lines in notepad.

When done just name it the boot.ini and place it in the root oc C:


[boot loader]
timeout=3
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

There's a back up in this folder:
c:\windows\pss the backup file is called boot.ini.backup
Copy it to c:\
Rename boot.ini to boot.old
Rename boot.ini.backup to boot.ini

Might want to change "Professional" to "Home" though.

Depending on the configuration of your computer, follow the link below. If
you cannot boot into XP, boot from the CD and load the Recovery Console to
run fixboot.
Click on the link below, or copy and paste the link into the address box
