Can someone tell me what the signature(d7a9d7a9) is in my boot.ini file? Is
it necessary to be there for anything?

Thanks,
Maxine

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=signature(d7a9d7a9)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
signature(d7a9d7a9)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

Just a flying guess, but did you install the encrypted filing system?

Not that i'm aware of. How would i check to see if it was installed?

It is being used to identify the specific hard disk the system is
mounted on. It is not a common way of doing it in XP - but leave it
alone
