Boot Failure: System Haulted

XP Home Installation works just fine, no errors and finds
all the hardware. I can power off, reboot install stuff
and there is no problems. As soon as I download even 1
Windows update and the system reboots it locks up at the
XP logo and eventually gives me the error "Boot Failure:
System Haulted" I've tried chkdsk /r and a repair install
as well, safe mode boots up ok and Last Known Good menu
doesn't do much.

If repair doesnt work nor LastKknownGood then you simply
have to format completly and install a clean win xp.

I really don't think messing about with your partition table is the
right answer. It sounds much more like you are having hardware
failures. Here is some generic hardware troubleshooting info:

1) Open the computer and run it open, cleaning out all dust bunnies and
observing all fans (overheating will cause system freezing); 2) test
the RAM - I like Memtest86 from www.memtest86.com - let the test run
for an extended (like overnight) period of time - unless errors are
seen immediately; 3) test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility from
the mftr.; 4) test the motherboard. If you can't do this testing
yourself, take the machine to a good local computer repair shop (not a
CompUSA or Best Buy type of store).
