Kevin

I get this error msg at bootup.
"Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb"

It follows: "You can repair the file by starting windows
setup using the original setup cd-rom. Select 'r' at the
first screen to start repair."

My problem is there is no first screen or "r" to select.
Error msg continues to pop up and I'm stuck in this
continuous loop.

How can I get a clean version of the file, and since my
pc won't boot, how can I load it?

thanks for any help...

Have you received any responses to this question?

I am encountering the same problem, and I don't have a windows cd-rom
to reinstall, nor do I want to lose anything on my hard drive.

I would just like to know how to copy the file onto my sick system to
get windows to boot, so I can backup my drive and reinstall windows.

Can anyone on this site help?

Thanks

you can still boot your system by pressing f8 after the windows logo or
the computer logo is displayed. your computer should boot in safe mode and
you can load the file by using a backup disk or windows disk or running
msaconfig to configure the computer to boot without the file by using
selective startup and clearing system services andclick close and restart
your computer your computer should boot in normal mode

Today in the middle of reading email my laptop knocked out and the following
message appeared: "Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\AppPatch\drvmain.sdb
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the
original Setup CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair."

I do not have the original Setup CD-ROM and, even if I did, my CD-ROM drive
doesn't work. I don't want to lose my data. Invoking Safe mode (or any of the
other options available via F8) brings me back to this same message.

I'm wondering if downloading/installling XP Professional's "boot from floppy
disc setup files" would address this problem. Thank you
