Boot Agent - HELP!

R

Ross Olsby

I am running Win 2000 Pro on a Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop.
I have had this system for about 2 years.

Recently, when booting up I get the message "the boot
agent can not be initialized or has been corrupted". The
only thing I can do is a hard shut down and restart. It
usually takes 10+ times before it will actually initialize
the boot agent.

Does anybody know if there is a MS website I can go to in
order to replace or repair the boot agent? Thanks so much
in advance for any advice.

Ross - I've never seen this message and never heard of "boot agent", so
on a hunch that it might be some Dell thing I googled for
[Dell "boot agent"] no brackets, natch
and sure enough, there are a number of hits. You don't have a W2k
problem but a Dell (and/or maybe Intel) problem, probably some BIOS
corruption. I doubt you'll find MS useful; I'd hit that Google list,
and if the answer isn't there try Dell support. Good luck.
