Hello

I hope I can explain this well.

In summary, I have a Word document (XP), that has, at the top, a table full
of different names. Each of the names are hyperlinked to a bookmark that
has a paragraph of text. The aim is for the user to find the name they
require from the list at the top of the page, click it, and this will move
the page to the bookmark, giving further information on this name.

There are two things I would like to achieve.

(1) When a user clicks a name, and the document moves to the relevant
bookmarked area, I want the beginning of that paragraph to appear at the top
of the document. Some do, some start half-way down the page, and some at
the bottom. How could I ensure that each bookmarked area shows at the top
of the page when selected?

(2) When a name is selected from the list at the top of the page, I would
like the relevant linked information that appears from it's bookmark to be
the only thing that appears. Is there a way of achieving this? At the
moment, all the information about the hyperlinked names at the top of the
page are in a list. So, when clicking a name from the top of the page,
information can be seen about other names that are in the list. Can I but
only leave blank lines between the paragraphs or is there a better way?

I hope what I have said makes sense!

Thanks for your time and patience,

Hi, gb,

I think you might be able to make good use of an AutoTextList field. Here's
an article that explains how it works and how to set one up:

http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/TblsFldsFms/AutoTextList.htm

In this case, the names of the people would be used as the names of AutoText
entries, so that's what would appear in the dropdown; the information about
the people would be used as the bodies of the AutoText entries. Only one set
of information would be visible at a time -- that's the way the AutoTextList
field works.

Hello Jay

Thanks for replying.

That's a good idea, I must say.

Although I never mentioned this in the first post (I didn't want to
complicate issues), I would prefer to save it as a web page, so that people
can access from a network drive. This idea no longer works when saving it
in that format.

I would imagine a different product would be preferable, but not sure how to
go!

Any suggestions would be gratefully received,

Thanks

The obvious way to accomplish your presentation intent would be to
save each information-paragraph as a separate web page. That way the
content would start at the top of the page and be the only thing
present on the page and be hyperlinkable.
