Bookmarks in Power Point vIEWER

Hello, has anyone figured out how to make BOOKMarks work in power point
viewer? I use a hyperlink to another slide and bookmark jump to a certain
slide. Of course it works without the viewer in PPS or PPT show, but when
the same thing is done in the NEWEST viewer from microsft, it jumps to the
first slide instead of that particular one..

ANy ideas?

I'm not sure that I understand the question since "bookmark" isn't a term used
in PowerPoint. Are you trying to link to a bookmark in another type of
document? If you want to link to another slide just go to Slide Show > Action
Settings > Hyperlink To > Slide... and select the slide you want.

I'm having a similar problem. The Help Files in Powerpoint tell you to
select Hyperlink then select the presentation file, then select the specific
page by using the BookMark button on the Hyperlink screen. When I do that,
the link takes me to the first page of the correct presentation but not to
the requested page. When I try your suggestion, Sonia, of going through
Action Settings and selecting another presentation and then slide, the link
contains the whole path for the presentation - which I don't want in the
final Powerpoint presentation as it will be distributed on CD.

Any suggestions?

Place both presentations in the same folder and *then* create the link. Don't
worry about what PowerPoint displays in the link field. If they are always in
the same folder, the link will work whether it's on your system, a CD, or
another system.

All files are in the same directory, including the viewer. The links work in
the Powerpoint presentation but not in the viewer. What I have exactly is a
Menu presentation that links to secondary presentations - one for each menu
item. All links that are supposed to go to pages within the presentation,
only go to the first page of the presentation. Specifically, how should I be
setting up the links to get to pages within a presentation?

Use Slide Show > Action Settings > Hyperlink To > Other Presentation and then
specify which slide when the dialog asks for it. This will work in the Viewer.
At least it works here using PowerPoint 2002 and the PowerPoint 2003 Viewer.

Thanks so much for your help. I went through all my links, removing the
hyperlinks that were set and set them up as you suggested and they all work
now. All's good now except for one small problem - I have a button set up
with the End Show Action to close down the Main Menu slide. (I also have End
Show buttons on each linked presentation and they close that presentation and
go back to the Menu slide like they should. But the one on the Main Menu
slide doesn't take me out of the presentation. It takes me to the first
slide of the playlist and then I have to hit Escape through all the slides
listed in the playlist before it exits. Am I understanding the End Show
feature correctly? Should it just close everything out from wherever the
link is?

Here's the line in the play.bat - @pptview.exe /L "playlist.txt"

And a sample of the playlist.txt file
UTBTraining_Menu.ppt
UTBTraining_MtrRdg.ppt
UTBTraining_ReadyBal.ppt
UTBTraining_Receipts.ppt

So..here's what happens...I'm on the Menu and I click the button that has
the End Show Activity assigned to it. The presentation then goes to the
UTBTraining_MtrRdg.ppt file. I hit escape and it goes to the
UTBTraining_ReadyBal.ppt file, escape again to the UTBTraining_Receipts file,
etc. all the way through the playlist (8 presentations) and then ends. I've
tried putting the End Show button on various slides but it always does the
same thing.

Weird one, I know! Would really appreciate any thoughts you might have on
this. Thanks again for your time.

You can edit the playlist and just list UTBTraining_Menu.ppt and it will work as
you want as long as you have links on the menu that take you to the other
presentations.
