I have XP home. I notice that the text that sames some of the files
in Windows Explorer are colored blue while the rest are not. Just
curious why?
Google works well for these types of questions.
The answer:
The blue color indicates that the files are compressed. By default, when
NTFS compression is used, the compressed files are shown in blue so you can
tell which ones are compressed (also by default, if you use EFS encryption
to encrypt files, those will show up in green. A file can't be compressed
and encrypted at the same time, so you don't have to worry about seeing
blue-green files).
If you really want to, you can turn off the color indicators by opening
Windows Explorer and clicking the Tools menu and selecting Folder Options.
Then click the View tab. In the Advanced Settings window, scroll down to the
bottom and click the Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color
checkbox to uncheck it. However, we like having the color indicator so we'll
know which files are compressed or encrypted.
