Blue Screen shut Down with Windows Media Player

Everytime I play a wav file in windows media player my system shuts down with
a blue screen error code 0x00000124. I have updated my drivers, wiped my
computer and started new, reformatted the hard drive, performed system tests,
uninstalled roxio and sonic solutions. Nothing has worked. According to dell,
they cannot seem to find the problem and instructed me to contact Microsoft.
Apparently they cannot find a patch for the windows media player. Is there
any way you can help?

What motherboard ( or Dell model # ) and how many revisions
below the latest available is your BIOS Firmware ? Have you
checked your Hardware profile in Device Manager to verify it
doesn't contain "Other Devices" or other non-functioning devices ?
Did you install the appropriate Chipset Driver package for your
hardware platform ?

It's not surprising that Dell couldn't find the problem, you weren't
dealing with Technical specialists but just phone agents cross
checking your problem description against a database of known
issues. You'd have a better chance of winning at on-line poker
than getting a useful response from Dell's phone support.

Dana, do other media players play wave files?

You can download winamp 5 that is a very good player for music and try it
out...
if even winamp cannot play, its something that is probably driver related...
www.winamp.com

if winamp can play it, then its a windows media player problem, then you
should post this info on the windowsmedia.player newsgroup...

Winamp is better for music anyway (in my opinion)
