Blue File Names

J

Joe

I have received this from one of our Senior Group members and I don't know
the answer;

Hello Joe
Can you tell me what's going on with XP ?
Suddenly and for no apparent reason a lot of the file names in My Documents
folder have turned bright blue
as if they were blue hyperlinks. I can only think that Microsoft has
slipped this into XP on one of its automatic updates. I can find no
reference to the names of files being blue in the Help section. Thank
Dennis

Can anyone here assist me please?

Thanks Jupiter, I thought that I had seen that somewhere, it can be turned
off in Folder Options/View can it not?

The blue font indicates that the files have been compressed with the disc
cleanup tool or manually. The file names will also turn to green if you have
XP Pro and you encrypt a file or folder.

If you do not like these colors you can turn them off but it is easy to tell
what is what with the colors on.

To turn off colors just open an explorer window then choose tools and folder
options, then click view. Near the bottom you will find a entry that says
show encrypted or compressed files in color. Just remove the check mark.

Enquire, plan and execute.

Files that have been compacted will show in blue by default. Likely
cause is running Disk Cleanup and the files are older than the setting
for compact old files.
