Hi
Just built a PC using a smartpower psu, the PC works fine, but there is a
small black plug with two wires (Blue and Black) coming from the power
supply that I have never come across before when putting together the odd PC
for friends etc, it looks like it may fit a fan socket, but I haven't
plugged it in just incase. I was wondering if anyone knows what its for and
where does it go? once again the PC works fine without it, but I thought it
may be needed by the smartpower psu to monitor the temp or even the power
supply to the motherboard. one other question which may be something to do
with my problem, the bios shows that 12volt supply is at 12.50 volts, I hope
this is ok?

Thanks in advance with any help at all

It's the fan controller wire. On my Asus K8N-E Deluxe there's a fan plug
just for it on the motherboard (called PSU_FAN). It monitors the RPM
speed of the fan underneathe the powersupply as well as has controller
over it.

You are correct, but many motherboards don't have a header (usually labeled
something like "Sys Fan") for that connector. If that's the case with your
motherboard, just bundle the little cable up with a zip tie and move it out
of sight.

Thanks for the help, I do have the SYS fan socket, so I will try it.

once again thanks :-)
