blow away XP

i am trying to reformat my hard drive, and blow away XP.
I cannot format through dos because it says something
about volume in use. and i cannot do it through microsoft
management console. what is the easiest way?

if you are going to be installing XP again boot from your Windows XP CD-ROM.
