Bloody messenger pop ups./and Blackmail

Joe

Please, people help me. These started 2 weeks ago. As a
online gamer these pop ups have put a end to my online
play.
The jerks doing it wont answer emails, and as I bought a
refurbished machine MS wont give me any technical support.

I know enough about computers to put my game cd in and
downlaod a file and do email.

I am to the point of not even turning computer on anymore.

I wont let the jerks doing this blackmail me into buying
the product they sell. Please help if you can.

Whats worse is MS knows this is going on, havent they got
a fix yet???????????????????????

Thanks Joe

Joe;
Are they Messenger Service ads?
There is nothing more for Microsoft to do.
You need to enable the already provided firewall.
No need to pay for the fix.
For Messenger Service ads:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330904
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/using/howto/communicate/stopspam.asp
Disabling Messenger Service can be a good idea, but it does not solve
the real problem.
The ads are not the real problem, the ads are only a symptom.
The real problem is open ports that allow unwanted traffic into the
computer.
Disabling Messenger does nothing for the open ports.
The firewall controls the traffic.

Internet Connection Firewall will not work if you have AOL.
AOL is not compatible with Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
(ICF)
If you have AOL, you should contact AOL and/or get a 3rd party
firewall:

http://www.symantec.com/sabu/nis/npf/

Disable Messenger Service:
Start/Control Panel, click Administrative Tools, click Services.
Go down to "Messenger".
Right click "Messenger" and select Properties.
Then under Start-up select DISABLE
Click OK and follow prompts

Run Ad-Aware (free version) or Spybot to check for spyware:

For internet pop-ups, try one of these:
