is there a way in which to block specific websites in ie?

Hi Osc Pembroke - Content Advisor is often used for that purpose: Browse
the Web with Content Advisor

There are also some third party programs such as these:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-menuext&ie=UTF-8&q=related:http://www.netnanny.com/
I can't comment on their cost or efficacy.

Open I.E. go to Tools - Internet options - Security -
Restricted Sites, and then add sites to the sites tab
