Blocking Use of Live Messenger

I have a number of XP pro pc's, all users have to be given administrative
rights because of the ERP software they need to use. A small group are using
live messenger for personal use rather than work, unfortunately I have been
told to spoil their fun!!! Anyone know how I can do this, the registry change
PreventRun=1 does not seem to work, I assume because its Live Messenger.

Greetings Harry,

There are no specific GPOs for Live Messenger like there were for the previous Messenger
products. As such, depending on your circumstances you could try blocking the application
using the normal software policies within Windows or blocking Messenger at the network level.

People -will- get around these though, a good solution is a specific IM policy and logging
mechanism at the network level. People are far less likely to use IM for personal use if
they know they're being logged and that the "geeks" can read what they're writing...
