Is it possible to block google text ads?

I've disallowed pagead2.googlesyndication.com on my router, in my browser
and furthermore in my hosts file, yet the ads are STILL getting through.

If anyone has any pointers as to how I could achieve this, I'd be most
grateful indeed.

Many thanks

Colin

Under Internet Options, I have google-analytics and googlesyndication in
restricted zone and in privacy to always block. I don't use a Host file but I
don't see any ads.

*.googlesyndication.com is easy to put in the restricted zone but I'm
wondering about Google Analytics. Its address is:

www.google.com/analytics

Wouldn't putting that in the restricted zone block all of Google?

Colin,

What I have done to block them is this:

In Symatec Firewall | Ad Blocking | Configure | Advanced

Add:

pagead2.googlesyndication.com

Block:

/
/pagead
/pagead/
/pagead/show_ads.js

In Global Settings:

Untick & Block:

Information about your browser
Information about blocked sites
Animated images
Scripts
Flash Animation

User Settings (block)

Use ad blocking settings

Now:

www.google-analytics.com

Block:

/
/urchin.js

In Global Settings:

Untick & Block:

Information about your browser
Information about blocked sites
Animated images
Scripts
Flash Animation

User Settings (block)

Use ad blocking settings

I used these: *.google-analytics.com; *.googlesyndication .com
Doesn't block google.com.
Most ads don't bother me and I even like/want to see them.
especially local sales:).
