I received a zip archive as a mail attachment using Outlook Express on an
XP/SP2 system. I could neither view nor unzip the files in the archive
because Windows would always pop up the following message:
Windows found that this file is potentially harmful.
To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to this file.
I found no way to circumvent the blockage. In truth all files in the
archive were harmless text files that passed scanning at my corporate
firewall and scanning that I did with Network Associates/McAfee Virus Scan.
Why is Windows making this bogus detection and why does it not allow me to
override its decision to block access?
