Blinkx -- The first real technology threat for Google?

Jen

I'm intrigued by this article on Blinkx -- seems to be a combined
desktop/internet search that is generating a lot of buzz. And it's
free apparently! Haven't tried it yet -- am downloading it now.

It rocks! Search is really fast on my email. I'm giving it a really
big thumbs up. I don't think it's a threat for google. I will still
use it, but this sure could be the next big thing!

Hm - I installed it after a few days. I was kind of frustrated when it
didn't find stuff I knew was there. I'll wait for Google's upcoming
desktop search, called Puffin. Hope Blinkx improves.

Don't think Puffin will ever be as good as Blinkx. Blinkx truly rocks!
I heard that Puffin will only work on email anyway, whereas Blinkx
brings up info from all kinds of different file formats and the
internet. Surely that's way more clever! I also really like the blog
icon- makes finding interesting people to talk to so much easier!

Sorry to butt in, but I tried Blinkx and found it thoroughly
confusing. Wasn't worth the investment to figure it out, for me, as I
find Google Advanced searches meet my needs very well.

I'm dismayed to discover that the quoting above got messed up. I'm the
one looking forward to Puffin; John Snyder is the one pleased with
Blinkx. Anyway, just wanted to be clear. [Jon Aquino 2004-08-12]

Larry are you confused?....Blinkx has two things on their site..the
client which is pretty impressive which is very simple, infact for the
linking which appears as the buttons on the top right of any active
window you have to do nothing to use it, and the email search works
well and is free. Its better than x1 and that costs $99. Google just
doesn't do this stuff.

The other thing would be the Web search site which is in Beta, this is
more like a traditional search engine but with lots of new twists
like video search, a 3D vizualiser etc so yep you're right its alot
more complex, but again you can't search boradcast video down to the
very words of the broadcast level on Google etc ...I think Blinkx are
using this site to test these new ideas

Hope that helps

I'll try it again Mark. Thanks for your feedback.

PS -- sorry to all about the two false replies; I was installing
Blinlx again and it sent the post I was in the midst of composing.

I don't see how it can be confusing you don't have to do do anything,
it sits in the corner and as you surf it puts links. The email search
is better than x1 and its free. Google advanced search doesn't even
have a function like this.
If you go to their website there is an area that shows you future
stuff that is more like a Google and its got all sorts of stuff in it
but thats not the client software so I think you are talking about
that..that looks like work in progress but the client is worth using,
it does video as well as desktop search and the linking and it works
pretty well. I think the help could be improved.
