Blasterworm

I downloaded the update for the blasterworm a few months ago but I will be formatting my harddrive soon and wanted to know it I can download the patch and save it to a CD so I can install it on my computer after the format before I log onto the internet? If so where do I DL it from?

You want MS03-039 (that supersedes and incorporates the MS03-026 update).

It includes all the critical updates that is relevant for a standard computer up
to and including KB824146 (Security bulletin MS03-039).

You should at least download the following critical updates released after the
MS03-039 update (and rollup package):

The CD includes Microsoft critical updates released through October 2003
(and SP4 for Windows 2000 / SP1 for Windows XP) as well as information
to help you protect your PC.

Supports Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, and
Windows 98 Second Edition (SE).


The only update the CD does not have of those I have listed above is the
MS04-007 update.

Hi Val,

There is a place where you can download updates from the Windows Update
Catalog.

Here are some steps:

1. Visit this page:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

2. On the left select Windows Update Catalog.

3. On the Windows Update Catalog page select the item for "Windows
Operating Systems"

4. On the 'Updates for Windows Operating Systems' page select the version
of the OS and the Language

5. Click on Search.

6. On the 'Returned Results' page click on 'Critical Updates and Service
Packs'

7. Add the specific updates you want to the 'Download Basket'

8. On the Download Basket page, specify the location of your choice (your
drive)

9. Click Download Now.

10. Copy the downloads to a location you can use later.

Before you connect to the net have a disk with a software firewall on it and install it before you connect (proactive prevention) Then your virus scanner, then, and only then connect to the net and get updated virus definitions from Virus software vendor. Then Windows updates from Microsoft... Or better yet go here.... http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp and order the Updates CD to your door before reformatting it's free and only takes a few days to turn up in my experience
