GM could someone tell me how I can stop or slow down the
blaster worm window so I can download a patch from
microsoft?

Thanks

I was also suffering from blaster worm till I enabled the firewall on my
machine.

go to control panel->Network Connections and right click on local area
network.

Now select properties and click on the advanced tab.

Here you will see a check box "protect my computer and network ....."
click on it.

If you are running a webserver, database or some other service on your
comp which others access, then you will have to open only those ports

You can do this by clicking on the settings button.

This feature was there all along on windows xp but still MS didn't
activate it by default :-( If they would have blaster would have blasted
them.

regards,
Abhishek.

Go to Start-Run and type in "shutdown -a" (without the quotes) and that
should give you time to get the patch.

Reboot and when the desktop appears, immediately do the following:

Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down to Remote Procedure
Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

This will disable the counter and allow you to stay running. Go to the
following website. Kelly has all of the tools you need there to remove the
worm and install the update that prevents reinfection.
