My laptop was infected while trying to download the patch.
I have downloaded the blaster32 removal tool from symantec
on a floppy and I have all the info on what to do but
there is one serious problem. I am running Win xp pro on
the laptop. The worm allows it to bootup for only about
15 seconds and then shuts off. It then starts the on/off
cycle. Since I cannot get windows loaded I cannot do
anything that all the instructions tell me to do.
Apparently I need to boot from a floppy that will allow
the removal program to run. Does anyone know anything
that will do this? I can't find any help on the symantec
site.
Thanks - Frank

Frank, Boot you computer in the "safe mode". This will
keep many applications from running on your system, at
least until you execute them. You can then modify the
registry on your computer (remove the "windowsupdate"
flag as discussed in the symantec advisory). You can then
run the virus removal tool (make sure your system restore
function is disabled as well). All of this info is at the
symantec website if I've been a little vague (can't find
it? Search for "epmap" on google. It will pull up a
website posted by a fellow who has done extensive
research on end point mapping viruses using the 135 port
in Windows XP). Denn

Denn,
Thanks for the reply. At least you give me hope that
something can be done besides format "c" and reload
everything! I am off to check out the sites you suggested.
Thanks again - Frank
