blank line

I am taking a computer course in college. and my book says to insert a blank
line. Am I supposed to just hit the enter button to do this?
 
Probably, although this creates an empty paragraph, which is actually not
the correct way to create space between paragraphs. Better to add 12 pts
Space Before or After. Ctrl+0 (zero) will add 12 pts Space Before.
