blank clips in powerpoint

I can insert a video clip in Powerpoint and it will start to play while
watching the presentation but then the video goes to a blank screen or a
black screen and stops playing. HELP.
 
In windows if you go to run > mplay32.exe and open the video does it play
there??

Is the video in the same folder as the presentation (before you insert it) -
shortest possible path can help
