It is a tad unclear what you are looking for, and you didn't identify your
Word version.
Are you trying to redact a document, or are you performing technical editing
on a document? MS offers a free redaction add-in for Word 2003.

Redaction is the careful editing of a document to remove confidential

The Microsoft Office Word 2003 Redaction Add-in makes it easy for you to
mark sections of a document for redaction. You can then redact the document
so that the sections you specified are blacked out. You can either print the

document, the redacted text is replaced with a black bar and cannot be
converted back to text or retrieved.

If you are performing normal editing and revision, then you perhaps track
changes is what you are looking for.

On the tools menu, select track changes.
I don't know if the redaction add-in works with Word 2007, or if 2007 has a
built-in redaction function. Also, there are several commercial redaction
add-ins.
