Black Screen Lock Up

Hi,

My PC black screen that appears randomly. Its an old P2
400 that has served me well. I recently installed Office
XP 2003 over Office 2000 and I replaced Frontpage 200 with
Frontpage 2003. But yesterday after 2 weeks with them
installed the screen would randomly go black like theres
no power to the monitor, Ive checked for viruses, none
found, I have even done the sasser stuff too. I can reload
windows after all power has been unplugged but after a
while it happens again sometimes with removing or
installing recent software or even doing a Antivirus
update, but if I try to restart straight away, it goes
black just as it goes from the loading screen to the
normal blue screen that windows has. In safe mode it runs
perfectly with no lockups at all. Please help

Possibly a hardware failure, eg graphics card
If you shutdown, leave it for 30min, does it restart ok?, if so its likely
to indicate a hardware failure as something warms up.
Though if its ok in safe mode it might tend to also indicate graphics card.
Try running in std vga mode, ie graphics uninstalled, if OK then allmost
deffinately graphics card
