black bar

Hi

I am running Windows XP SP2 on a Gateway system. I have a weird problem and
not sure how to explain it but here goes.

If you click start and programs and were ever you slide the mouse to
highlight a short cut a black solid bar appears across the selection. The
shortcut still works correctly. I also have my desktop icons on a taskbar
selection and it does the same thing there.

However in no other location does this occur. IE and explorer highlights
work normally.

Any suggestions appreciated

I would change the Theme setting in Display Properties. Perhaps toggling the
standard theme off and on will reset it.
