Recently I had to replace my monitor. On my new monitor my
Excel spreadsheets(the same has happened to my Word and
Powerpoint programs)now exhibit a extremely black
background. I still do see the column and row lines on the
Excel spreadsheet and any added text or numbers are
visible, but how do I change the background to a lighter
color?

As far as I know the only way to change the background color of a worksheet
is via Windows Control Panel - > Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced
and the Item is "Window". This is for Windows XP. Other Windows versions
may be different.
