i am trying to download to pictures from the web. and the
picture properties are jpeg format,,but my machine is
trying to make them bitmap format..the machine was working
fine..earlier,an just started to do this on its own...i
never changed any settings......vince

Clear the Temporary Internet Files. In IE>Tools>Internet Options>
Delete Files button. And check the box to Delete Offline content.

Hmmm. I'm guessing that perhaps I suggessed the same fix you did. Just a
guess.

1. I dont generally read other folks replies to OP's initial ?s before I
write back unless I see a whole lot of them with the same thing I was
going to say/link to.

2. If it is the same solution then the OP will be more assured that the
fix is in the ballpark if it's mentioned by more then one reponder.

3. Often some replies will come though to an OP's post sooner then
others, so it makes no difference if a few different folks post the same
fixes.

4. Replies in html are often not seen at all with some folks news
services.

5. Have I covered what, perhaps, you meant by echo?

This happens if the indexes of the Temporary Internet Files get
overloaded. In Control Panel - Internet Options, in the temporary
internet files section on the General page, click 'Delete files'. Then
I suggest click Settings and reduce the space allowed - 50 MB is
probably generous, and on big drives it tends to choose by default a
setting that is so high that this overload happens
