Is there any benefit in updating a BIOS even though I have not made any
major changes to the PC? The Everest programme recommends it. The BIOS is
date Nov 2001.

Only update the BIOS if it fixes a bug you've encountered or adds
additional feeatures you need such as higher speed CPU support or
larger drive capacities.

NO. Upgrading the motherboard's BIOS fairly often leads to an unuseable
motherboard due to a failed upgrade. ONLY upgrade the BIOS to fix a known
problem.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The only exception to this rule is new
builds. I always start by flashing to the latest revision bios.

It would be helpful to know exactly why Everest is asking you to update the
BIOS. Generally it's inadvisable to update it unless there's some important
feature that you will gain, such as a newer cpu , or a bug that has been
previously plaguing the mb.
