To identify potential upgrade and compatibility problems

a.. At the command line, connect to the I386 directory located at your installation source and type the following command:
winnt32 /checkupgradeonlyResolve any reported problems prior to performing the upgrade.

If the computer already has an OS, boot it up, insert the W2K Pro CD, go to the command prompt, change directories to the I386 folder of the CD, and launch the command line above. This will tell you if W2K foresee any upgrading problems.

If your computer does not have an OS, then I would say just go for it. Give it a try. If your PC boots from CD, you are golden. If not, create the floppies and start there.
