BIOS setup with SATA

I'm ready to fire up this DIY PC that I built 3 years ago and I"m thinking
to not use anything fancy except a video card. This will be a new hard drive,
and a new operating system, either Windows XP Pro or Home edition. This mobo
is an Elitegroup ECS GF6100-M754. The hard drive is a SAMSUNG Spinpoint
SP1614C SATA drive, with either 80 or 160 GBs. I took it out to look at it,
to make sure you have the right info.
I need to go into BIOS and configure that it's going to be a SATA drive
instead of IDE drive? What do you think is the BIOS key, DEL, F1, F2 or a
wtf? I don't want to do anything fancy here, it's my first SATA installation.
Just get it working and no updates either I think?
Please don't tell me to read the mobo manual, the part on BIOS had half the
page torn. Figures, there are 2 half torn pages in the whole manual and 1 of
them is on the BIOS section. My luck!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank, attilathehun1

Try the mfg web site for a owners manual download..Usually BIOS is
delete,SATA is configured in advanced chipset, also in boot priority.

The mobo manual can usually be downloaded from Elitegroup site
You will probably have to use the F6 option during the initial install
stages of winxp to instal the sata controler drivers from floppy.

Some of the early mobos with SATA, there were 2 alternatives, one for boot
and one as an added hard drive for data. If electing a SATA hard drive as a
boot hard drive, it must be mapped as ide via bios settings (plural) with no
ide device on the first ide port as an example. No SATA driver is needed
for an XP install as its seen as an ide hard drive.

Speculation on a product or material that is
an obvious need, is not speculation per se
as there is no risk to the speculator.
Common were those selling food and other
supplies in the gold rush days.
In this case, its oil and its everyone who
bites the bullet. And most everyone has no gold
to be made, just business as usual.

My hard drive isn't being recognized during the installation of Windows XP
Home edition, should I use Windows XP Pro, and then it would be ok?
Where do I get the SATA driver from to install during installation of the
OS? Also, When I pressed F6 a fail-safe load came up. What's that about?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Home or Pro will make no difference
The sata/controler driver will be on your mobo cd, often in the form of
'make floppy' otherwise it is usually avilable on the mobo site. (and no you
cannot install it from the cd - floppy only)

The F6 option comes in early in the winxp installation, you get a msg on the
screen re 'install third party drivers' F6 at this point. If you miss it you
have to go through the whole installation again.

Ok, I inserted the motherboard CD and I see on the list of options RAID and
under that Floppy and when I click Floppy, two options come up, READ ME and
MCP61. When I right clicked on MCP61 and choose destination Floppy drive I
put in a floppy and it said full after a minute, then another floppy, it said
full after a minute, and then I had to format a floppy and when I formatted a
third floppy to use it said, Try again destination not found or something to
that nature.
Am I doing it right, and how many floppies are needed to do this? Or did I
take it one step too far when I clicked on Floppy? Should I send keep the
READ ME on the new floppy that I'm making, or did I choose the right option
on the mobo CD?
Any more help is greatly needed and appreciated!
Thanks, attilathehun1

Oh yeah, I set the boot configuration to floppy, CD-ROM, then Hard Drive. I
can change it back after all is done, and yes, DEL got me into BIOS. As far
as the Intergrated Peripherals there 4 options, 2 of them are IDE Function
Setup, and RAID Config. I went to RAID Enable, which was disabled, and
enabled it, and then the other options then came in bold so I could choose
them. I enabled SATA 1 Primary RAID and SATA 2 Secondary RAID, even though,
I only have one hard drive. Was that right, or should I just enable SATA 1
Primary RAID? Or should I leave that alone? I'm thinking I should just enable
SATA 1 Primary because I have only 1 hard drive.
I'm to the point where I want to enable anything that says SATA, so you can
see why I enabled both.
I didn't see the option you spoke of, option 3 or I read something back
there someplace about, oh yeah, Intergrated Peripherals that says Auto, then
Primary Master P10 Auto, and then Primary Master P10 and options; Auto, Mode
0, Mode 1, Mode 2, Mode 3, and Mode 4, and Auto is checked. Is that what you
were talking about earlier? I can't find that reply.
I find another option under Intergrated Peripherals that says Serial-ATA
Controller and it says enabled. I think it was already enabled?
Ok, I hope we can do this, I'm in the middle of the installation, in BIOS
right now.
Thanks, attilathehun1

I'm still in BIOS and I'm looking at Advanced Chipset Features and a few
options have spiked my interest. The first one is PCI-E Spread Spectrum and
it's disabled. I could change it from disable to triangular down. The other
option is SATA Spread Spectrum which is also disabled, but I could change it
to triangular down.
I'm just thinking about the video card and SATA drive, that's why it peaked
my mind to see wtf those were.
This isn't important right now? Lets try and get this going. I'm almost to
the point where I'm going to burn those floppies and take a chance. I figure
to wait for your response, but If I don't hear from you by tonight, I'll give
it a shot. It's going to take at least 3 floppies to do this. That's why I
was wondering if I was doing this right?
Thanks, attilathehun1

At this point, its obvious to me of many things.
1. Its an Award bios
2. Its obvious at boot time how to enter the bios settings via DEL as its
stated on bottom of the screen.
3. This thread is going nowhere fast.
4. You asked at the outset how to enter the bios, see 3. above.
5. You have no idea what RAID is per you response, but probably do anyway.

End response. End all future responses this thread.
STOP...
