BIOS: I just want to get in!

THis I'm sure is a goofy question but... When my XP laptop
boots up it doesn't let me into the BIOS setup. It says to
use F2 to enter setup but it hasn't worked yet. Any tips,
please?

Yep - RTFM - the BIOS has nothing whatsoever to do with Windows.

What make of laptop? Some require tapping F2 during a certain POST
message (my Toshiba), and some others anytime during POST. Your
manual should tell the specifics.

WinXP is not the point here. Different computer brands have their own
method for entering the BIOS. Perhaps you are too slow in hitting F2.
Try repeatedly tapping the F2 key as the system boots and see if that
gets you in.

This a hardware issue, not a Windows one. You have to get into
the BIOS well before Windows even starts to load.

How to do so depends on the motherbard/BIOS you have. If it says
F2 and that doesn't work, perhaps you're not pressing it at the
right time. Check with your hardware vendor.

It is goofy if you don't even state what make your laptop is. Compaqs use
F10, if that's any help.
