When asked in a recent interview:

"How do you feel about competing open source platforms
such as Unix and Linux?"

Bill Gates lies through his teeth by saying:

"The software ecosystem can accommodate many different
development models, and healthy competition is what
produces new innovations and drives technology forward. We
focus our efforts on developing products based on the
commercial model, which we believe produces the best
possible software for our customers."

PMSL!!! "healthy competition" is why Microsoft paid SCO
in excess of $50 million recently under the table,
right?!? The "software ecosystem" may be able
to "accomodate many different developement models", but M$
sure can't with it's bug ridden, insecure, bloated
software!

ROFL!!!

What OS are you using?
Interesting to see your OS incapable of using a newsreader.
Or is the OS to complex for you to set up the newsreader?

I was gonna reply to this person, but as I was 90% done with my reply, I
just deleted it. Just not worth it. Some people are just dunce.

not sure if this is his news reader, but this was in the header... hehe

Yes, all of the above is true, and unfortunately today I
am using Windows!

The CDO reader is the webpage interface reader, which only newbies use. I
think jupiters point was if the op is so good with os's and knows linux and
windows then they should know how to use a proper newsreader like outlook
express, thunderbird, or agent. Anyone using the cdo reader, imho, is a
newbie and most newbies do not have the knowledge to talk about linux and
windows or BG for that matter.
I'm not saying the op is a newbie or unknowledgeable, but you would think a
linux user would know how to use a newsreader.

Guess not.. lol.
He's having a arguement with Gordon against me about how MS is a monopoly
and there is no choice.. Some people, sigh...exact reason why we shouldn't
allow test tube babies!

I didn't say a "monopoly" - I said "near" or "virtual" monopoly - not quite
the same thing ;-)

The reason MS has survived as a monopoly is essentially the same reason
the gas, electric, and local phone company utilities have survived as
monopolies.

Depends where you live. Here we have choices of two or three different elec
co and telephone co's. No monopoly here -- it all about choice. True one
main company owns the equipment, but they share it with other companies and
you pick who you want to do business with.

Sigh.... I hear ya.........unless someone holds a loaded gun to your head
their is always a different choice and no one can force you to choose
something you don't want. The "no choice" slogan is always a cop out for the
uninformed.

Phil;
Pretty close.
Most of the people who come here with nothing else but to bash Windows
and support Linux or another OS use the CDO.
So either they are incapable of using a newsreader for some reason or
they are afraid because the CDO allows the post to be anonymous with
no indication at all as to the source.

No, but what I do see is someone who is so uncomfortable with his own
position that he needs to resort to name-calling to attempt to shore
it up.

Facts can prove/disprove your position.
Name-calling does nothing more than reflect on your character.

I thought I got the gist of what you were saying. The anonymous thing is a
good point to. Trolls.........

Just because you label me a troll, does that really mean
that my point(s) have no merit or truth to them?

Humm... for those who travel and can't/don't connect laptops while doing
so, the Microsoft web site using the CDO reader is convienent and surely
used by others than just newbies...

Phil;
One other thing.
There are legitimate reasons why others use the CDO, not just newbies.
But it does seem interesting how most of the Microsoft bashers use the
CDO.

Don’t get on the original poster. He is correct about Microsoft
funding the Sco. Possible the only way ms can try to get rid of
Linux. Of course this will not work. I will not pay for any licensing
of Linux, I already have period. Linux had one major problem
hardware incompatibility.

I never called you a troll. I meant trolls use the cdo so they can hide
themselves. As for the points, I really have better things to worry about
then what BG thinks about linux or the windows linux war. I have no opion on
it. It's not important to me. I simply tried to clear up what I thought
jupiter was talking about.

Exactly true, if you need to run software that requires Windows.

You have a choice of any number of Linuxes if you want to run software
that requires Linux, but I'm not sure if the effects are 100%
beneficial. Perhaps an OS needs to be a standard, from the
perspective of compatability and critical mass.

Yes, it's interesting to see how this doesn't seem to have translated
to better electricity in the US. We read stories of rolling brownouts
etc. and think "these poor third worlders", and then realising we are
reading about California, not our own continent :-)

But phone; oh yes, we do need competition there. One year's 0.5M ADSL
rental (the line, not including ISP) costs as much as a decent PC.

The difference is that competing electricity companies don't use
different voltage and lock you into tribes of appliances, and that
competing telcos do route calls to each other's networks. With OSs,
that works as far as Internet access is concerned (tho MS has tended
to mess around with email standards) but not apps.
