You rarely here about the 'Windows Community' because to join THAT group
regardless of your own level, you get dragged down by the extreme
numbers of avg/sub-avg people.

That's right Bill, you program Linux with switches, just like the
Altair...now, here's some chocolates...no, you can't leave your cage.

"As for Linux, Gates says, it just can't compete. "We put things into
our system like systems management that's not that much fun for
university developers," Gates said. "Linux doesn't have that stuff. It
doesn't have the graphics interface. It doesn't have the rich set of
device drivers. So certainly we think of it as a competitor in the
student and hobbyist market. But I really don't think in the commercial
market, we'll see it [compete with Windows] in any significant way."
Meanwhile, the Gates book, which is widely regarded as a snoozer, soaked
up most of his other comments."

Makes one wonder, I think that Microsoft should develop it's own Linux
distro, MS Linux or Winux ;~D lets say and we'll all see it become the most
popular and successful Linux distro ever. It will show all other Linux
distros what's involved in creating and marketing an operating system to
become the market dominant, and see the end of this Linux\Windows argument
for good. What do you say Hon. Sir B. Gates? You have the resources and the
know how, take this Linux sub-culture and make it the norm!, and take full
control of it.

Just for a laugh Newsgroup, love WinXP and Linux (SuSE especially)... It
does have the graphics interface I found.

Regards,
Winux P.

The problem with that is:

a) the customers who signed contracts with them for Windows; who have
been told ( lied to ) about Linux, who will now sue them.

b) they will not have the income stream with Linux and OSS necessary to
maintain the stock price at $25 -- which is the only reason they're in
business right now -- long enough for them to sell it off at a high
price before the collapse.

c) they couldn't do it; even if they tried...

Their first OS that they sold was Unix. Untill NT was released they were a Unix company internally (yep Win16 and Dos were written on Unix). MS wrote the intel port of Unix for AT&T.

MS is a company that is expert on UNIX but they dumped it for NT.

Right...any you think any of the really smart people who could do that
type of work are still there?

Only the losers stayed that long!

No, the first OS Microsoft sold was CP/M for the Microsoft SoftCard, a
board for the Apple ][. Then came DOS followed by XENIX.

No, DOS and Windows were written on a DEC 2020 which was replaced by a
DEC 2060, both running TOPS-10.
MS wrote the intel port of Unix for AT&T.

No, Microsoft licensed AT&T's UNIX and wrote the port so they could sell
it themselves to OEMs like Tandy and Altos.

Hi Bored_to_Wine, You'd call Bill Gates a loser then ?
Through no fault of our own... We're all winners for having been born.
Through no fault of our own... We're all losers for slowly dying.

Jim_White's Static_On_The_Radio: <<

3 A.M. I’m awakened by a sweet summer rain...
distant howling... of a passing.. southbound coal train.

Was I dreaming...
or was there someone just lying here beside me in this bed ?

Am I hearing things ?
Or in the next room, did a long forgotten music box just start playing ?

And I know... [ it’s a sin putting words in the mouths of the dead ]
And I know... [ it’s a crime to weave your wishes into what they said ]
And I know... [ only fools venture where them spirits tread ]
‘Cause I know... [ every word, every sound bouncing ‘round my head ]
Is just static on the radio. [ Is just static on the radio. ]
[ Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. ]
Is just static on the radio.
[ Everything I think I know is just static on the radio. ]

Midnight rendezvous with a pretty girl,
wearing a torn and tear-stained gown.
Like a ghost ship she appeared from nowhere
on a lonely highway and flagged me down.

I gave her a lift downtown to the Greyhound station
and in the flicker of the neon light, she kissed me goodbye,
and in the mirror of her eyes I saw my own reflection.

And I know... [ the blind will sometimes lead the blind ]
And I know... [ through shadow lands and troubled times ]
And I know... [ forsaking love, we seek the signs ]
And I know... [ of truths forever hid behind ]
The static on the radio. [ The static on the radio. ]
The static on the radio.
The static on the radio.
[ Everything I think I know is just static on the radio ]
The static on the radio.
[ Everything I think I know is just static on the radio ]

Now there’s a church house...
about a stone’s throw down from this place where I been staying.
It’s Sunday morning, and I’m sittin’ in my truck
listening to my neighbor sing.

Ten years ago I might have joined in,
but don’t time change those inclined
to think less of what is written than what’s wrote between the lines ?

‘Cause I know... [ dreams are for those who are asleep in bed ]
And I know... [ it’s a sin putting words in the mouths of the dead ]

......‘Cause I know... [ for all my ruminations I can’t change a thing ]

Still I hope... [ there’s others out there who are listening ]
To the static on the radio. [ To the static on the radio ]

To the static on the radio.
[ Everything I think I know is just static on the radio ]
To the static on the radio.
To the static on the radio.

[ Ain’t praying for miracles, I’m just down on my knees ]
To the static on the radio.

[ Listening for the song behind everything I think I know ]
To the static on the radio.

Everyone knows Microsoft was over by 1986.

IBM fooled Gates and Ballmer into thinking they had made this 'big coup'
by breaking away with NT from OS/2.

Ha...IBM was smart enough to know the hardware wasn't ready yet.

Clearly they let the line out long enough to tire them out, and then,
once the platform was ready, swept in with Linux.

Gates and Ballmer wasted 15 years of their lives building a platform
that is not wanted, and is no longer necessary...because it's easily
replaced by something that is free...

As long as M$ gives away free software such as .Net and Visual c#
Express, their will be takers, in the same way that if they give money
to charities, they will take the money, but certainly, no one is goinv
to give them any more money.

Hi Decemberist, Re: Your notion that IBM beat MicroSoft,

OS/2 was not backwards compatible... it lost.
Linux was not backwards compatible... it lost.
Java was not backwards compatible... it lost.
C# was not backwards compatible... it lost.

C# is an untested pig with no #define... any questions ?

You ignorant twit
OS/2 had an exceptionally good DOS-Box
It had excellent Win3.1 support. Win95 did not even exist when OS/2 2.0
arrived
Linux was not backwards compatible... it lost.

It is excellent backwards compatible with unix
Java was not backwards compatible... it lost.
Idiot

C# was not backwards compatible... it lost.

Do you ever just try to have a point, or are you just Bailos retarded twin?

Hi Peter_Sweeter,
Re: My comment that OS/2 lost because it was not backwards compatible,

Ya writ: << You ignorant twit, OS/2 had an exceptionally good DOS-Box.
It had excellent Win3.1 support.
Win95 did not even exist when OS/2 2.0 arrived >>

From
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft
<< In the late 1980s, Microsoft and IBM partnered in
the development of a more advanced operating system, OS/2.
The operating system was marketed in connection with a new hardware design,
the PS/2, that was proprietary and secret to IBM. >>

How backwards compatible was that ?

Re: Linux loosing the Retail_Market due to a lack of backwards compatiblity,

You told me: << It is excellent backwards compatible with unix >>

Reeealy ? Other than Google... who cares ?

You wrote: << Help... the word Idiot is tatooed on my forehead ! >>

Can't help you there, dude... seek professional help.

Re: C# being an untested pig with no #define,

You confessed: << I never make sense... never a point.
If only I knew half of what Bailo does... if only. >>

If wishes were horses, we'd all be riders.

P.S. Thanks for the food, maître d'hôtel.

Just imagine how fast this post would be pulled from the server if I
attached something called "virus.scr," and how many complaints my ISP
would get about it.

Boy, are there a lot of double standards in this group!

There was no attachment. Peter just likes to troll the Windows
newsgroups using a very old and well-known trick. It sometimes causes
panic among the uninitiated.

Messages That Start with the Word begin Are Received as a Blank Attachments
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q265230

Now, why Microsoft has bothered to fix this little annoyance is another
question.
