I have seen posts mentioning using a BHO Disabler to help remove malware.
What does BHO stand for?

BHO = Browser Helper Object (for Internet Explorer).

For acronyms, visit http://www.acronymfinder.com/.

BHO Demon is a very good product for identifying what BHOs are currently
installed. It can disable them (so you don't have to uninstall the
software to determine if it is causing the problem). And it accesses a
huge database of BHO information that helps to identify the BHOs you
currently have integrated into IE. If it is left loaded at login, it
can also alert you when someone is attempting to install a BHO. I use
SpywareGuard for that so I don't bother duplicating the functionality
with BHO Demon, but I do use BHO Demon manually when I need to
investigate what got into my system or how it is configured. For
example, when using BHO Demon, I can see the following are installed:

AcroIEHelper.dll = Adobe's Acrobat Reader AX control for viewing
PDFs within your browser.
dllprotect.dll = SpywareGuard
SDhelper.dll = Spybot's Immunize (against "bad" cookies when
browsing sites)
GoogleToolbar2.dll = Google Toolbar
NAVShExt.dll = Norton Antivirus

You can also see BHOs using Ad-Aware's Tools->BHO function (you may need
to click on the Tools category button and enable the BHO reporting
tool).
