BEWARE new IDE driver in driver set v3.13

The subject says it all.

Since installing my A7N8X Deluxe and the 3.13 drivers, CD and DVD
burning mostly resulted in 'coasters'.

I reverted to the MSoft standard IDE drivers and all seems well so
far.

I have informed Asus of the problem and would like to inform Nvidia
but cannot find any contact info. I do not want tech support, just to
give feedback...can anybody help with this one?

Cheers,

Guy

Sorry I did not make it clear that I am taking about the newest
(busmastering ?) v1.00 IDE drivers that one is given an option to
install or not during the 3.13 install.

I installed the SW-IDE from the 3.13s on my Standard A7N8X v2 board, The
Nvidia utility shows them as v3.66. Device manager shows my RICOH 5125A
DVD+R/+RW/CDRW and my Aopen CDRW set to DMA 2.
No coasters here, maybe the drivers just don't support you drives?

Only thing I had to do was re-install my burn apps, Nero 6, don't even
remember having to re-install Alcohol 120%, I think it reconfigured
itself the first time I ran after the driver updates.

Why did you have to do this? Did you have any specific problems or
were you just playing safe?

No not at all, if something works I don't' mess with it! ;p
Nero didn't even see my burners, so I re-installed it, been fine since.

Nothin wrong here..............

Delighted that I am that nobody else here is having problems, searches
show that many people are (with CD/DVD burning).

Pity I cannot find a kindred spirit here with whom to commiserate.

Happy New Year.

Wish I had an easy answer for you, all I can say is performance wise I
didn't see any big performance difference between the default WinXP
drivers to these SW_IDE drivers on my WD IDE drives. The transfer rates
were about identical but the CPU utilization did drop a couple percent
according to HD Tach 2.61.

I also noticed the LAN benchmark score using Sandra 2004 is lower with
the newer Nvidia LAN driver vs the older one from the earlier driver set
(was it v2.45?).

IMO, I think all the newer drivers are really doing is slowing things
down to make the OS/board run more stable. I never had a problem even
with the Asus 1.16 driver pack when I built this system (7+ months ago),
I guess the only reason I try newer drivers is in hope the system would
get even faster, seems just the opposite.

Hi Ed,

I reinstalled the IDE 2.0 drivers so that I could easily change
between the MS standard IDE driver, the Nvidia 'standard' driver (same
as MSoft's but with ATA 133 support) and the IDE 2 ones in device
manager.

I find some disk intensive operations seem quicker with the new
drivers.

For some strange reason, I have just managed to burn a CD and add some
photos to a DVD, so all seems to be well, so far (shhh).

BTW, how often are new drivers released?

Cheers,

Guy
