I am about to do a re-install of my PC. I want to backup all of my e-mail
folders, contacts, calendar etc.

I know that I have to copy the Outlook.pst file. But the last time I did
this and then later restored this file (by copying it to the re-installed
Outlook folder), I finished up with two copies of my Personal Folders.

I have a few questions.

1. What is the best way to backup the PST file?
2. What is the best way to restore it once I've re-installed Office 2003?

Cheers.

Bobby

That's because you copied over the top of an identically-names PST.
Guaranteed to corrupt your mail file.

1. What is the best way to backup the PST file?

Copying the PST to some other folder or to a CD is an excellent way.
2. What is the best way to restore it once I've re-installed Office

Copy the PST back to some folder (it could be the default one, but it
doesn't have to be; Outlook doesn't care where it is) making sure the file
is not read-only, click File>Open>Outlook Data File, browse to the folder
where you've placed the PST, select it, and click OK. Then, to make it the
default delivery location again, click Tools>E-mail Accounts>Next and at the
bottom left, choose it from the "deliver to" drop-down.
