Best way of getting Access?

T

T.J.

Apologies for the absolute beginner questions
and if they are FAQ.

I am about to start working on a data-base driven
website for the very first time, I know absolutely nothing
and don't even have Access on my system, but just have a
very basic Works package.
What is the best way to get Access? should I go for
the complete Office 2003 pro package or is there a better
way?
I will be buying a complete new system this week and having
the software bundled with it.
As the site is primarily built in ASP am I correct in thinking I
would be better of with XP pro?

Many thanks,
Unfortunately this is just the first of probably loads of simple
questions I will be asking over the coming weeks.(
TIA.

If you are buying a system bundled with software be *very aware* that
bundled software is OEM software and as such the software *lives and dies*
with system it is supplied with.
ie you *cannot* transfer the software to another system!!!! If the system
dies so does the software!!!
Also OEM software is supported by the system supplier NOT the software
manu.!!!

Thanks for the info,

A quick look around and Office 2003 Pro out of the
box is around the £400.00 region
Bundled with a system it is around £200.00
is it worth paying the extra?
If I buy it out of the box can I use it on 2 or more systems?

Back to the original question:
I've now found I can buy Access 2003 separately, but assume
I would be better of getting it packaged with Office?
Any advice appreciated

(ps. is top posting the norm in this group?)

Depends on your view, of maybe having to buy it again if you renew your sys,
or if sys fails

Depending on Retail version a single user can install on two sys, ie a
desktop & laptop

Once again depends on whether you wish to use the other Apps, now or in the
future

I use OE newsreader and this is default when replying to post
(Not how I've responded here)

Keep in mind that if you already have Works, you probably qualify for the
less expensive Upgrade version when purchasing Office. Been a while since
I've converted pounds (or priced software outside of US for that matter) so
I'm not sure what price you are quoting. (I'm also assuming MS has similar
Upgrade versions/pricing in England as they do in North America).

HTH,

HTH,

Thank you,

Works was pre-loaded on the system I have now, which I
will be keeping and using along with my new system,
I assume this rules me out of an upgrade version?
I didn't know for sure untill DL pointed it out, that I could have
the out of the box version on 2 machines, so It looks like
that is my best option.
Thanks again.
