best software to burn video to dvd?

What's the best software...for quality output...to burn edited DV-avi to
mpeg and DVD?

I have Nero Ultra v7. And it works but I have heard that some quality gets
lost using it. I have no other burning software to compare output so I'd be
interested in knowing what others are using.

Do a Google search on DVD burning software and see if there are any reviews
out there.

Also, if everything being copied/burned is digital then how can quality
suffer? It's not like the old days of an analog copy of a copy of a copy of
a VHS or Beta tape. In digital then tenth is as accurate as the first.

I've used Nero, Roxio (v5, v6, v7 and v8 - and v8 is by far the best)....
and PowerDirector and WinDVD Creator.

Haven't noticed much difference in any of them to be honest, I'd say
PowerDirector was the easiest editor... but it does insist on the user
creating menus and I rarely need them. Menus annoy me, so I tend to create
the file in PD or WinDVD Creator and then either burn with WinDVD Creator or
Roxio. I'm not particularly keen on VideoWave or NeroVision.

If I'm going to be making a lot of copies of a certain production, I tend to
create it in PowerDirector, make the Video Folders in WinDVD and then burn
(in this case it would be 'disk copy' in roxio speak) with Roxio. I know
it's a three way process, but I do find that I get the best results that
way.

Once I have the Video Folders on the hard drive, I have three PCs with
burners so it's a case of running round the house, burning DVDs from the
same folder over the network on each PC that has the burner.

I use the WinAVI video converter. The state of the art AV compress
engine will give you a very fast conversion that gives you both high
quality video and Dolby AC3 5.1 audio! With WinAVI Video Converter, you
will get a perfectly converted movie that is as good as the original!

First, you hare misinformed. Using Nero to burn a file to DVD does not
reduce the quality, unless the Video is being compressed to fit to a single
DVD.
There is no software that will give you better quality than your source
files. If you edit your source files and change formats, there is a small
deterioration of quality, but in a single generation is not dramatic.

Nero is a very high quality piece of software. I would recommend you
continue to use it.

Make sure your source files are of sufficient quality; limit the number of
edits, and author at the lowest compression possible.
