Best printer/scanner for~£100 pounds UK which is cheap on ink

I'm sick of being ripped off by Lexmark and don't want to buy another
cartridge for my X2230

Can anyone recommend an alternative printer/scanner which doesn't have to be
top quality or lightning fast. I just want something that I don't have to be
concerned about the cost of ink cartridges all the time.

My old Epson 670 was great because I just got cheap compatible inks from an
internet trader. Is there a printer manufacturer to aim for that cheap
cartridges are easily available for.

Thanks

I would say look at the Canon mp500 @ 110 quid, but as you are
intersted in compatables there are simply not any.

The Canon mp780 on the other hand has more compatables than you can
shake a stick at. It costs 155 quid on amazon.co.uk, is technicaly an
older model. I own the mp760 my self. I can't say it's been issue
free, but I just recently got the head replaced by canon though the
unit was outside of it's warranty, and it's received heavy use for
photos, and too little use for text documents. It's still working, but
i'm getting light banding on the text nozzles. Though the mp780
doesn't have the slide scanner, I still would reccomend looking at it.

I'm not up on current epson models, which would have the benifit of
compatables. There is at least the rx520, a unit i've never met. All
I know is it looks like it will take normal sized cartridges.

The problem with Multi-fuctional units under 100 quid or so is they
tend to take smaller cartridges, which end up costing an arm and a leg.
Not so bad if you burn though only 500 sheets of paper/year and a
handful of 4x6s but easily add up.

No. Don't expect that there ever will be either. That is a major source of
income for the printer companies.
