pardon me, this may of off topic but I hope someone has the experience to
point me to the right direction.

I am looking for a low cost replacement for acrobat version 5. Acrobat v 9
is too expensive and got too
much feature.

I do realise Google will give quite a few but way too many and I don't know
which one to trust as well

Had good luck with free PrimoPDF and can download latest version here:

http://www.download.com/PrimoPDF/3000-10743_4-10264577.html?tag=lst-0-1

This site is safe to download from.

Of course this creates a "Printer" on your printer list and you print to it
just like you would from Adobe's product to create the PDF. If you want to
edit a PDF or combine them this product won't do what you want. The Nitro
Pro version for $99.00 will do most of what Adobe's product will do. See
http://www.primopdf.com/primopdf_free_idx.htm for comparison.

Acrobat Reader is also free. The OP was posting a question on the
full Acrobat "creation" suite.
