I am using a DVD-RAM drive for archiving data. I was wondering what the
advantages & disadvantages of the various file systems were, in the context
of DVD-RAM?

UDF
FAT32
NTFS

And what format is most commonly used for DVD-RAM media? I'm currently
formatting it as NTFS.
Thanks for the tips.

NTFS is the file system used by NT, 2000, XP & 2003 Server

FAT32 is the file system used by Windows 98 & ME

I wrote a 13, 000 word assignment on the differences between NTFS & FAT file
systems.

If you are really that interested in knowing the difference then read the
following articles:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/Default.asp
url=/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/W2K3TR_ntfs_intro.asp

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fileio/base/ntfs.asp

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/archive/ittasks/deploy/fat.mspx

to show you a fewon FAT & NTFS.

Now, for UDF:
----------------

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/fileio/base/udf.asp

If you look at the TOC on the left of the above page then you'll have
additional documents regarding the other file systems

I hope this helps
