Can anyone please recommend any file recovery software for recovering
deleted files etc. I used to use Ontrack Easyrecovery Professional but
it does not support Vista.

Can anyone suggest anything please?

Many thanks!

1.Don`t install on the partition/drive you are recovering from.
2.Recover to another partition/drve.

That way, you are less likely to damage/overwrite existing files.

My standard message on this follows. Your question suggests that you
already know much of this, but for the reference of others, I've left
it all in.

"Deleting" a file doesn't actually delete it; it just marks the space
as available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to become overwritten very quickly, and this makes
the file unrecoverable.

So your chances of successfully recovering this file are decent if you
try recovering it immediately after deleting it, and rapidly go
downhill from there. If you've been using the computer since then (for
example to write this question and read this answer), your chances are
probably very poor by now.

But if the file is important enough, it's worth a try anyway. Stop
using the computer in question immediately, if you haven't done so
already. Download an undelete program (here's one:
http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html but there are several
others to choose from; do a Google search) on a friend's computer and
bring it to yours on a floppy or CD to try.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Actually I'm just looking to install one as a
precautionary measure as I've always had EasyRecovery Professional in
the past. Its got me out of alot of trouble before so its a shame it
doesn't support Vista. I'm not actually in a recovery situation at
the moment.

Thanks.

You DO have a backup strategy, right?

1.PCInspector
2. Restoration
3. File Undelete+
You don't install them on the same drive as you are recovering from, as you
could overwrite what you want to recover while installing the recovery
software(mainly re PCInpector as it contains a few MBs)!
