I am beginning to believe it was the fact that I am storing
these files on a USB drive and I run the Blowfish CS from another
drive. When I decrypted a large group of files (jpg) I got quite a few
errors so I tried to decrypted them again. The next thing I know the
originals were gone and there were no decrypted files to be found.
I did find about six that encrypted files that I had successfully
decrypted earlier from another folder but I can not even wipe them
because every time I try the computer tell me it can not delete these
files that they are corrupt. The drive is a GIGA BANK 4GB made by I/O
Magic. I have tried AxCrypt and I get somewhat of the same thing. I
keep getting told that I have the wrong password when I was just
testing so I had the password in front of me. I ran the Blowfish CS
from another USB drive (Busslink 60GB) but I ran the AxCrypt from my
internal HD.
I know very little about this area.
Any info appreciated.
Thanks in advance
I've never come across anything like that before - and like you I
encrypt and manage files on a USB drive.
I wonder if it isn't a problem with the usb drive?
Might be worth trying an earlier version of Blowfish..I use V.2.11 (
didn't bother to upgrade to the latest version ).
Check your Options settings..have you enabled "Ignore CRC32 errors".
Enabling this is risky, and won't give you a chance to try again
should things go wrong.
You could also disable "Overwrite existing files", which adds yet
another layer of backup security, though it does mean you have to
delete the original files if you ever update them.
It might also be worth dropping Marcus Hahn ( the author ) a line,
just in case you've discovered a bug!
Seems a bit odd that two distinct encryption programs generated a
similar error...and that would lead me to suspect either the drive or
the interface.
Check in your computer System Properties for any settings on your USB
drives..sometimes there's an option to 'Ignore drive errors'....always
worth unticking this one!
