Best drivers for 8500LE under Win98SE?

N

Neil Harrington

I'm planning on putting together a Win98SE box to play some older games that
are quirky (or just plain won't run) under WinXP. I'll be using a
Sapphire-built 8500LE card that I've had sitting around for a while, and
probably an Athlon XP 1700+ or so. I still have the drivers disc for the
8500LE, don't recall the version but they're quite old as the files are
dated 2002.

Can someone suggest the best (most stable, speed is important but secondary)
available drivers for this card?

Thanks!

I've always found that the 3.7's were best on my 8500 128Mb card on Win98SE.
Although it's been a few years now since I've done Win98SE and there may be
newer ones that are better.

Just checked the ATI site, and 5.9s (the latest, at least for Win98SE and
WinME) are the only ones they seem to have. I've downloaded those and if
there's a problem I'll try to find the 3.7s.

Thanks again,

Neil

Yep, that's where I was before, but unless I'm missing something (always a
possibility), the only Win98SE/ME drivers they have there are the 9/21/05
version, which is 5.9.

when your going threw the "find a driver" menu's I think its one menu before the recommended drivers page. Anyway, there is a giant
list of them in "previous drivers."

I've been using the 'recommended drivers' for win98 for some time now with no problems. With one exception, the remote control
software!

If you install the recommended remote control software version 3x it will be a major bummer. grrrr. The support department said MMC
8.9 should use the remote control software version "remote-wonder-2-3-0-1-english.exe".
But im still licking my wounds from the 3x driver damage and not tried to install them.
