Hello,

I am starting a new project for school, and need a download accelerator
(the average file that I need to d/l will be about 20-50 mb). The files
are on several different mirror sites.

Therefore, I am looking for a new download manager/accelerator. A
couple of years ago I was using Download Accelerator, but was told that
it has spy ware in it. Is this true? What other d/l mgrs. are out
there that are any good? I am willing to pay up to $50 for a good one.

TIA.

Hi,

Just an opinion, but I've always had good luck with my registered version of
GetRight (http://www.getright.com).

Thanks Rick. I'm going to download it now. It got 5 of 5 stars at CNET so looks
good to me. BTW, what version are you on?

Hi,

I'musing the most recent release, 5.2b.

Hook up via cable. My download speed is approaching 3.0Mbps!

I'm using Internet Download Manager Version 4.01. Works very well. I do
not recall what I paid for it.

And your point is? What does cable have to do with anything? I have DSL,
and my download speed is 6.0 mbs - but I still use a download manager. Do
you think you will get full speed from every site? Hint - no.

Many sites will allocate only a small amount of bandwidth for one
connection. The way the download manager speeds up the download is by
making several connections (6 - 8 is common), so your download will be 6 - 8
times faster. I've also seen slight increases with sites that have fast
downloads, but the manager smoothed it out, so if you looked at a graph of
your net speed, it would be a straight line with no dropouts.

I've been using Internet Download Manager, $29.95. Reget has one cheaper
that is supposed to be very good.
