Best database engine for WM5?

I would like to know what is the best db engine for WM5? I am currently
using C#, SQL Server Mobile, and CF2. I don't like the large installation
required for CF2 and SQL Server 2005 Mobile and I am looking for something
smaller with similar capabilities. Would like to use Mobile Access, but
that is a dead end road. Looked into EDB, but there is not a lot of helpful
documentation available.

Does anyone have experience with eSQL ( http://www.vieka.com/eSQL.htm )? Or
what about db40 ( http://www.db4o.com/about/productinformation/ )?

Would XML be a viable option, or would it be to slow for large database
apps?
