Hello......

So what are some opinions about the best banner add manager.... ones that
work on most machines, etc.

Thanks for your opinions.....

It all depends on what server-side scripting is supported by your host.

Hi Thomas.....

.... it will be php.... on a unix server

My main concern... since reading a thread here that the FP banner add
manager has problems on XP machines...... is that the component is ultra
cross browser friendly.

Thanks

Tom,

The FP Ad Banner Manager is really misnamed, as it is basically a slideshow
type component with limited options, that allows to rotate a small group of
images all pointing to a single hyperlink and requires user to have a Java
Virtual Machine installed.

A true Ad Banner Manager application is a server-side application that is
written in ASP, PHP, CGI-Perl, CFM, etc, that is database driven and can
handle a unlimited number of images, each with their own hyperlink, alt
text, number of times to be displayed, etc.

server side scripting is always better for x-browser stuff. besides the
banner ad manager being a java applet I think it had other significant
weaknesses. I think it's capable of only one hyperlink, or something
equally ridiculous.
there are definitely tons of banner ad scripts in php and you can find them
along with ratings at www.hotscripts.com among other places. Usually php
stuff is free but it's amazing to see the price and quality of some
"commercial" scripts, they're almost always a good deal.

Yea... I've been to hotscripts before and really like it so I'll go back and
check it out for that. I wanted to start off with the folks that are "in the
know" and see what they had to say.

I read in another thread about the FP banner manager not working in XP
machines very well so that was the basis for the question. Since this will
be for commercial ads that I am selling for my site (mostly community
businesses, etc) I do want to make sure the ads are being seen for my
clients.

Anyway.... always check with the pros first! :)

Thanks

So is there a "request list" for FP that MS will listen too for possible new
features??? Does MS listen to FP pros? I'm a Visual Foxpro programmer and
there has, at times, been a rocky relationship with VFP programmers and MS.
I will say, however, in the area of enhancements, they listen to developers
pretty well. It has always been in the area of promotion that VFP
programmers have felt slighted. Anyway......

Thanks

I believe somewhere on the MS site is a Wish List submission function where
you can indicated new features you would like to see in various MS
applications.
