Best AV s/w?

Sorry to ask this possibly over asked question.

I currently use Symantec's Norton Antivirus 2003.

I'm looking for one which is relatively small and fast but efficient at
protecting against viruses with prompt updates against the latest viruses.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

NOD32.

Updated regularly, sometimes daily. Answer e-mails too. :)

I like e-Trust EZ from Computer Associates www.my-etrust.com . Small, daily
updates, now $25 and $13 annual renewals. You might like to look here

AVG Antivirus (www.grisoft.com) - free for personal use.
Very norton-like, regular free updates, automatic scheduling and updating, I
don't use anything else anymore.

up to one week ??? ive been using it too and have had succesful updates
almost every day for the past xxx months/years/whatever
You must use a different calendar to me then )

AVG, twenty updates in two months.
update 489 10th June
update 509 12th August.

There are instances of some updates being 6 days apart.

Very poor considering the rapidity of viruses being born/mutated.

just as a matter of curiosity i downloaded and installed nod32. it tells me
that i dont have a default mail client and that i must run outlook and set
it as default.
does this mean that it only works with outlook ?
i use outlook express and have no intentions of changing
Nod32's "Imon" scans email at the winsock level, it is email client
independent.

I use NOD32 with Outlook Express and Incredimail without any problems.

I use NOD32 with MozillaThunderbird and it works fine.
Make sure you have V2 of NOD, and make sure you've defined
OE as your defailt mail client, and I have no doubt it
will work flawlessly.

Should be no need afaik. Nod email works at winsock level.
Send yourself an email and receive it back.
Open up Nod control centre via the tray icon.
Click on Imon and the right hand pane should open
up listing the number of emails scanned and results if any.
