What about the newer X series of cards?

X600XT equals 9600XT which is slower than the 9800Pro. X700 is a little bit
faster, but much more expensive.

I was thinking of getting a NVIDIA 6600GT, but would rather buy ATI.
Guess I'll just have to replace my ATI 9600 with the 6600GT.

Go right ahead. The 9800Pro is a good card, plays all the latest games like
BF2, Republic Commando, Doom3, etc. very smoothly. However, since the
release of the 6600GT there have been few reasons to buy a 9800Pro or
FX5900.

As long as you're considering nVidia, please consider the 6800LE.

I have heard it said that it is a match for the 6600GT and has the
possibility to unlock further hidden potential with the Riva tuner
app. I purchased one recently, and I was able to effectively unlock
all but one pixel shader unit (I think that's what it is). Further,
I was able to overclock it some, but have not yet experimented
extensively. I must say that I would not have been at all happy
with the card without the modifications, and otherwise would
have preferred to spend more. The difference between the
un-modified and modified unit is phenomenal. For me, it was
a great value, but please remember, you may not be as fortunate.
